Yesterday I went to the dentist, who I hate with a passion. I had to have a talk with him about my wisdom teeth, and have x-rays taken. So as it turns out I have 4 impacted wisdom teeth, and one of them he can't remove in the office. I now have to go to an oral surgeon, joyous! At least they can knock me out cause I don't do well at the dentist. I have been psychologically scared since I had over half of my baby teeth pulled in order to put the braces on. Dentists are evil! When I got home last night from work I told my mom, who started a fight (surprise there!). She says that I have to have it done when she has off from work (cause someone needs to drive me). She wants me to make my appointment right before Christmas. Now I'm having all 4 pulled at once, and my argument is that I don't want to spend Christmas looking like a chipmunk, and not being able to eat all the good food! But whatever, I'm sure this fight will continue until I give in cause there is no winning when it comes to an argument with my mother.

My parents told me this past weekend to put together my Christmas list, since they have already started shopping. I know that my dad is getting me a wireless router thingy (don't you love my technical terms!) for my computer, and they told me this weekend that they would get me a cell phone to. The only thing is I have to do the research, give them the info and they would get it. Now being a poor college student I will need a pay as you go plan, since I don't have $50 a month to spend on the phone along with my other bills. I thought I was all set when I found out Verizon had a pay as you go plan (free night/wkends and mobile to mobile), but as I found out, they don't offer that plan anymore. So I guess I'm going with the Cingular go phone plan, unless anyone can suggest any other good/cheap plans out there, if you know of any please send them my way! I would greatly appreciate it.

Right now I am so excited. Although my day didn't start off well (I had over slept and missed my first class) in Investigations we had a guest speaker, an Evidence Technician with the Rochester PD. After class I went up to talk to him, about how to go about getting a job in the field, and other various questions. He didn't have a lot of time, but told me to come back tonight and after that guest lecture he could sit down at talk to me in more depth. So I went back tonight and we talked. Up till now if you wanted to be an evidence technician in Rochester you'd have to be a police officer, it's a duel job. That's why I have been looking out of state, other jurisdictions don't do that. Well Rochester PD has now started hiring 'civilian' evidence technicians, meaning that they are not police officers; the only job is collecting and analyzing evidence. Investigator Martin told me that there is a test coming up in a couple of months, and he gave me his card and to use him as a contact! I just need to find out when the test is given and sign up for it! He also showed me the stuff in his crime scene kit, I got to play with his print powders and I got to play around with the magnetic print powder which is like the coolest thing! I also got to look at crime scene photos and he showed me how to seal the evidence bags. I can't wait to get a job in the field!

I know I haven't updated lately, but I haven't been in much of a mood to write, and I didn't really have much to write about. I became really excited this week based on this idea from a professor, and I know that I already told everyone close to me, but hell, I'm going to tell you all again! I was in class this past week, and my professor asked if anyone knows about the body farm? I thought well here is my chance to speak (still working on overcoming the shy issues) so I raised my hand and he asked some simple questions about it and what is it they do. I'm not going to go into graphics but if you want to know look online or read The Body Farm by Patricia Cornwell. Anyway I told my professor I wanted to go into forensics and he said to talk to him after class because he had some contacts for me, sweet! So we talked for like an hour and a half after class, and I walked back with him to his office. He gave me the card of the guy that heads up the body farm, he met him at a conference a year ago! Anyway this guy, Jarrett Hallcox runs this 12 week program at the University of Tennessee where you work under him (like an apprentice) and at the end of the 12 weeks I get a certification in forensics, I wouldn't have to go get my masters like I had planned! I'd still have to pay money, but not as much as 2 years at a college. This guy is the head of the field of forensics plus a professor at the University of Tennessee. I emailed him this weekend, and I'm still waiting for a reply from him, but this could mean after I graduate I'll be moving out to Tennessee! I'm so flippin excited! This could be one of the best opportunities I'll ever get!

I've created a separate gallery for pictures of friends, and family. The only ones on there right now are a few of my nephews, but I'll work on it more in the next few days.

Trying to study...but this is how I feel

In hanging out with my friend Michelle this morning we landed on the subject of future careers, the dreaded job hunt, and fears about the future. I'm declaring that I'm going to be the best criminalist to my ability. To me the reason to go into this career (other then my love for science) is to help those who can longer help themselves. However I fear that my only problem will not be with the blood and gore (I'm fine with all that stuff), but with trying not to identify with the victim or the victim's families.

So now with less then a year till I graduate it dawns on me, this is really starting to happen. I have now started looking for jobs in my career field. I managed to get a bunch of applications that I plan on filling out and mailing in with resumes after this semester, just to get a head start. I have applications for a criminalist with the Los Angeles County Police, Orange County Police, San Diego Police Dept. Sacramento Police Dept. Ventura County Police and the San Francisco Police dept. I think that pretty much wraps up the state of California! The other nice thing is all the departments starting salaries are in the $40,000 range for the first year and then increase, and all health benefits are also covered, sweet! Then there is the outrageous increase in the cost of living in sunny California that I'll have to worry about, but I'm getting ahead of myself. I can't believe I'm excited about starting my career! (I know Kate...I have to stop being so freakin' motivated ;oP)

Today I have decided I absolutely loathe Immunology with every fiber of my being! I was never fond of it to begin with, but now, forget it! The first month was ok, yeah I didn't understand some things but hey, I'm here to learn right? Well today we past the point of no return and it was like the teacher in Charlie Brown...blablablabla...I have no clue what she is talking about, after 4 years of solid college biology, how the hell can I not understand this? To put it simply...I'm screwed! As it turns out the majority of students are grad students, except 4 of us. Half of those grad students work in the medical field. I'm not a religious person...but God help me! I think part of my problem is that I'm burnt out when it comes to biology, hence the reason I switched to criminal justice.

On a lighter note I got my Halloween costume!! I'm so excited. I bought this little (and I do mean little) black skirt, and I went back to Charlotte Russe and got the black corset, and I already have the high black boots. So when I got home I tried everything on together to get the whole effect. I showed my mom whose jaw dropped to the ground with a..."you're going out in that?" My dad asked what I was and I said a fallen angel, and as he walked in the room his jaw dropped, with a response of "I guess so". Being daddy's little girl, I thought he would flip, but surprisingly he didn't. He just told me that if I get arrested for soliciting, he isn't bailing me out, lol. I then tried it on for my sister who didn't say anything, but my nephew saw and his response was "aunt Lissa looks silly" which sent Sarah into hysterics! Great now Joshua is going to think his aunt is a street walker lol! Now all I need to do is get the wings and the halo!
